Course Description
The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course is approved by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) and is exempt from EMSA stickers for child care providers. This course provides training in basic pediatric first aid procedures (including the first aid skills recommended by OSHA) and pediatric asthma care to effectively recognize and treat emergencies for the first few minutes until professional medical help arrives. Course topics include the assessment and management of illnesses and injuries such as eye injuries, fever, suspected abuse, snake bites, spider bites, wound care, bleeding control, burns, seizures, allergic reactions, asthma, and stings as well as environmental emergencies. The course also covers CPR and relief of choking for the adult, child, and infant victim as well as proper use of an AED.

Intended Audience
The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course is designed for childcare providers that require certification in pediatric first aid and CPR, adult CPR, and proper use of an AED. Typical enrollees for this course include teachers, before and after school programs, preschools, child care providers, foster parents, adoptive parents, and more. This course is also appropriate for the general community member who wants to learn pediatric first aid skills for his/her own knowledge.

This course is not intended for people who work or want to work in the healthcare field.

Course Length: Approximately 8 hours

Course Description
The Heartsaver® Bloodborne Pathogens course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulatory requirements (CFR 29 1910. 1030) for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction. Course topics include information on preventing and protecting yourself from exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The course also covers how to act appropriately if an exposure does occur, how to clean up after an exposure, and how to properly report the bloodborne pathogens exposure.

Intended Audience
The Heartsaver® Bloodborne Pathogens course is designed specifically for the workplace/health and safety market who must be trained annually in bloodborne pathogens to comply with OSHA regulations. Typical enrollees are workplace personnel in settings such as industry and manufacturing, fortune 1500 companies, occupational health, property management, hospitality, health and fitness staff, childcare workers, maintenance workers, public health staff, tattoo artists, security, state correctional facilities, and more.

Course Length: Approximately 1½ hours

Payment Method:
Heart Link is pleased to have PayPal as our credit card processing center. You do not need a PayPal account, they will process your credit card as in the usual method.


Waiting List:
If a scheduled class is full, Heart Link will begin a waiting list and contact you if a space becomes available. Placing your name on the waiting list does not guarantee a space in the scheduled class. If possible, we encourage you to register for another regularly scheduled class with space available.

Illness or Other Medical Conditions:
If you are currently under the care of a physician due to illness, pregnancy, or any other medical condition, consult with your healthcare provider prior to registering for a Heart Link class. If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, please refrain from attending class until you are well and symptom free for at least 24 hours.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Individual Bookings:
If you cannot attend the class you registered for, please notify Heart Link at least 24 hours prior to the original class date. If Heart Link is given at least 24 hours notice, you may reschedule for the same course on another date within 60 days of the original class date. You can reschedule a missed class only once.

Failure to provide this notice or failure to appear in class will result in your forfeiture of the entire course fee. Course fees are non-transferable. *There are no refunds.

*Classes with low enrollment (less than four students) may be cancelled. If Heart Link cancels the class you registered for, you will be promptly notified. Every effort will be made to re-schedule your training. If you are unable to re-schedule to a future class date/time, your payment will be refunded in full.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Group Bookings:
Group bookings must be cancelled at least 72 hours prior to the original class date to avoid forfeiture of the entire group course fee. If Heart Link is given at least 72 hours notice, you may reschedule your group for the same course on another date within 60 days of the original class date. A missed class can be rescheduled only once.

Failure to provide this notice or failure to appear in class will result in your forfeiture of the entire group course fee. Course fees are non-transferable. *There are no refunds.

*If Heart Link cancels your scheduled group class for any reason, you will be promptly notified. Every effort will be made to re-schedule your training. If your group is unable to re-schedule to a future class date/time, your payment for the group booking will be refunded in full.

American Heart Association CPR and First Aid courses require mild to moderate physical exertion including performing CPR skills while kneeling on the floor. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing to class.

Student Book Policy:
The American Heart Association guidelines require each student have a current course book available before, during and after the class. Student manuals/workbooks and all other required course materials are included in the course fee(s) and will be distributed at the beginning of your scheduled class.

If you would like to review your course materials prior to the class date, Heart Link will provide them by mail
($5 shipping/handling fee applies), once your course fee is paid in full. Please allow 10 days prior to the class date to ship your course materials.

Please be sure to bring the course materials to your scheduled class if they have been mailed to you ahead of time.

Course Completion Card Policy:
American Heart Association course completion cards are now being sent by email within 2 days of successfully completing and passing the course you have registered for. All American Heart Association course completion cards are valid for two years through the end of the month in which the card was issued. For example: If you successfully completed an American Heart Association course on October 17, 2012, the course completion card you receive will be valid through October 31, 2014.

Replacing a Card:
Heart Link is pleased to announce that you have access to your Completion Card for two years from the ecards.heart.org/student/myecards web site. You may return to the web site as often as you need to get copies of your card, at no additional fee if the original card was issud by Heart Link. A replacement card is as valid as the original card.
